I just got my first issue of COINage and I noticed a guy that has a 'coin of the month' club... now this struck me as something sort of fun, particularly with a plan they had for paper currency. On the other hand, it sort of struck me as a random sort of grab bag fire sale - theoretically, I could be signing up to relieve some guy of his junk inventory that won't sell on its merits. I think what sort of bothered me was his claim that I would get some 100.00 worth of stuff for my 47.95... I don't want 100.00 of stuff for 47.95... I want 48 bucks of solid value that may appreciate. So this was a big turn off, because I doubt anyone would hand me over some inventory that he could sell for 100.00, for half price... But it sounded fun.
Hey rick, For me, the "fun" is in doing my own research, shopping around for the best deals, and making my own desicions about what to collect. It may sound strange, but I want to get the satisfaction of being the one to put together my collection.
susan, thanks for the info. You hit the nail on the head. I think I will end up passing on this idea. jody, I completely agree. I have become a much more effective buyer since I have started visiting this site. I was going to sign up for the program for paper currency, because I'm not a collector of that avenue, really... I have a couple, but I thought this would be an interesting and fairly inexpensive way of seeing things that I would never, otherwise, look for. I guess I wasn't really considering it as additions to my collection, more like an interesting side project that I could share with my kids. But I don't want to sign up to purchase some guys junk, sight unseen.
