Yes, they will be in the 2007 Silver Proof Set but they won't be silver. I'm happy that they're only charging $7 extra for the extra 4 coins. That seems pretty reasonable to me. It will probably take me a bit longer looking through a number of sets at the Denver Mint before I find that perfect one, but I'm looking forward to it.
I thought the Sac dollars included in the proof sets from prior years were proofs, not business strikes.
Silver Presidential dollars under active consideration Coin World (Feb 12, 2007) is reporting that US Mint officials are actively considering producing 90% silver presidential dollars, but cannot do so without authorizing legislation. They even report a proposed price for a 14 coin set of $54.50 with presidential dollars, half dollar, quarter and dime in 90% silver. They also proposed a 4-coin silver presidential dollar proof set for $25.95. :hail: Apparently these proposals were based on surveys of Mint customers. I for one would love to see this. Perhaps we can lobby our congressional representatives to pass authorizing legislation before it's too late for the 2007 issues.
That's right, they are proof versions of coins intended for circulation - whether or not they actually circulate. I guess what I should have said is that they currently put proof versions of uncirculated coins in one holder, and the proof quarters in a separate holder. Since there won't be silver Deadprez proofs (unless Congress passes another law), there would be no reason to include business strike Deadprez coins in the silver proof set.
I guess we'll find out when we recieve our sets from the mint. I have a question though, I have a subscription with the mint to recieve the proof, silver proof and the unc. mint set. Do they just charge my credit card automaticly when they're shipped or do they just send me a confirmation telling me they're available and to agree to charge my credit card account.
prez coins too many presidential $1.00 series will be too many. the first washington coin estimated to be 300,000,000 more or less. that is hugh. i might just buy some platinum anniversary for this year.
What are we going to do with 150,000,000 Sackies? And thats just the first President! The last several years the total mintage for Sackies was about 5-6 million for inclusion in the mint sets. I can see it now." Due to the excessive number of dollar coins on hand the Fed. has decided to suspend the printing of $1 bills and ship coins in their place."
They will just charge your credit card automatically at the time the coins are ready to be shipped. They won't notify you before charging the card, although you may get an email telling you the order has been shipped. if you check your status on the US Mint web site, you can tell if the order has been fulfilled. IMPORTANT WARNING: :loud: Make sure that your credit card expiration date is well past the expected ship date for any subscription items that you have. In the past, the mint has cancelled orders because of expired credit cards without notifying the subscriber. Apparently, just changing the credit card information on the US Mint web site doesn't guarantee that the change will affect existing orders, so if your credit card expires before the ship date, it's important to call the mint by telephone.
Amen!!!!! It seems like with a lot of people now days they are all about guessing if the coin is going to turn a profit or not... The bigger the clue that the coin might turn a decent profit the bigger the hype on the coin.... Sure, I'd rather make a profit on my coins if I ever sell them then not or than taking a loss, but I buy and collect coins because I love to collect them, to look at them over and over again... I like to see if I can get one or more of each minted... I like to learn about the history of each coin, what was going on at the time, how many and how it was minted.... Who designed it? What was the 1st and last year of that series... I like the different details that you can see in each coin, I like to look at circulated ones and see if its still there in your paticular specimen... Ex: On a Morgan, Hows visable is her hair, the writing on her cap, her ear, the stars out closer to the edge/rim... On the reverse, look at the Eagle, is the chest smooth or can you make out all the feathers, can you make out the wing tips? Look at the tail feathers see if they are defined, depending on the year how many are there 7or 8? Look at the olive branch... etc .. etc.. etc.. Every coin has some cool details when you look at them.... Even the 50 state quarters 90 years from now, will have somethig unique.... If profit is the main motive in ones collecting then I consider it more speculating or investing than collecting... But them again, thats just my view on coin collecting... I realize other people collect for other reasons... My opinion does not define the hobby but for me...
I had to go and check myself - the 4 Pres. coins will be included in the Silver Proof set but they will of course be of the same composition as the regular Proofs just like the Sacky.
Thanks alot, this answers my question very well. I had no idea how this worked being the first time I've ever had a subscription from the mint.
I hope that they don't include them. Why be forced to by them THREE times? Mint, regular proof and silver proof. What do you do with all those extra proof pennies and nickels?
If they aren't silver, then there's no reason to include them. It's just a waste plastic and metal. Why have TWO copies of the thing in trays?
Some people may order only the clad or the silver proof sets. This way, they will have a complete set of coins for the year regardless of which choice they make. It's no different than including the cent, nickel and Sacagawea dollar in the recent silver proof sets. I agree that it would be nicer if the prez dollars were in silver, but it's nice to have complete sets. Actually, the US Mint did offer a (40%) silver proof set in 1976 that included only the 3 silver coins the Eisenhower dollar, Kennedy half and quarter. These coins were selected because they had special bicentennial reverses. I presume that's why the dime was omitted. I bought one just to complete my collection, but it seems like sort of half a proof set.
presidential dollar series i like to collect presidential dollars. it is better than statehood quarters i guess.
The mint has the Pre$ coins proof set on the website under the upcoming products link. The set looks pretty cool.
Washington Presidential dollar Is it just me or does George Washington look exceptionally grumpy on the coin compared to his image on the dollar bill?
prez coins this year, i just want to buy 1 set 4 pc of prez proof set. unfortunately, it was delayed.
