There are album's out now for the Presidential dollar's P & D mint. Is the mint going to have any S mint or proof dollars? And if so, why is there no albums to include them?
As posted in many, many threads over the past few months, Congress has not authorized silver Deadprez coins. If the Mint can't make them, the commercial album makers won't make albums for them. There will be clad proofs of both P and D mint coins, but there will be no S mintmarks because there will be no silver coins and that's all San Francisco produces.
Silver has nothing to do with it. The San Francisco mint will produce proofs in the orginal metal composition and they will have the S mint mark. I do not know why the album producers have not included them, however, I have seen other albums sold both ways with or without proofs included. I just think there are collectors that would never put a proof in an album and these are made for that client base and there will be albums that include the proofs as well.
I believe Dansco is planning on coming out with an album that includes P, D, and Proof Presidential dollars. I may be mistaken on the album numbers, but take a quick look on ebay - I think the Dansco 7184 is a date album, while 7186 is a P,D album. Both are currently available. The album containing slots for proof coins, hopefully, will follow shortly.
