I just got off the phone with the mint. They say that the presidential coins willnot be part of the silver proof set. I thought this is wrong. i know the presedential coins will not come out in silver but i thought they would be part of the silver proof set as well as the clad proof set. Can anyone please help clarify this? Thanks.

Just think it through. If there aren't any silver Deadprez coins, they can't put any in the silver proof sets.

Congress hasn't authorized use of silver for the series.

    Prez not part of proof

Is that true there will be no S mint for the prez?? Also the mint has raised the price of the silver proof to I think 44 dollars.

I just talked to the mint, as of now they are not sure if the Prez will be included in the silver set.
The mint will have a seperate 10 piece clad set $26.95 and a seperate 14 piece set they dont know the price yet. The 2007 silver proof set 10 piece will be $44.95 about a 7 dollar increase from last year.

But they've always included Sacagawea dollars (and cents and nickels, for that matter) in the silver sets even though the Sac isn't silver.

    Interesting.

Not the answer you received, but the fact that you were actually able to talk to a government employee who spoke English,

my understanding is that the prez coins will be in the silver set but they will be standard composition. i could be wrong but believe this is the case. new price 44.95

Don't over react too much about info you get from the customer service folks at the Mint. My experience is that very few have any idea as to what is going on. Problem is that you can't separate the ones who know what is going on from the ones who don't. This is an area that the Mint needs to address badly.

According to Coin World, the main reason for the sharp price increase in the proof sets is the increase in the number of coins. I have read in several places that both sets will include the new Prez. dollars.

But I do see how they could include them though they are not Silver..... I'm just curious how they'll fit, if they do will it be three plastic holders

1 for Cent, Nickel, Dime, half-Dollar and SAC-Dollar if included
2nd for 5 State Quarters, Silver or not
3rd for 4 Presidential Dollars (will the edges be visable?)

Well, we won't know for sure until the sets come out, or the Mint announces what they are going to do.

If I were a betting man I would still say no Deadprez coins in the silver proof set. They currently put all the circulating coins in one holder, and the silver NCLT state quarters in another holder. It just isn't logical to include a third holder of business strike NCLT in the silver set.

According to Coin World, there will be Presidential Dollars in the sets. There will be a specially designed third tray with the coins protruding upwards so the edge lettering can be seen. Congressional approval for silver proof versions has not been announced.

This special tray for the Pre$ sounds pretty cool. I'm looking forward to seeing this one. In addition
to the Pr. Silver Pre$ I'd be rooting for a special RP silver $cag minted at W. Let's hope the mint reads
    my message!

The mint was supposed to include them in the silver sets, but made of brass (or whatever that junk metal is) just like the Saci's.

Maybe the mint still hopes to get congressional approval to make the prez coins in silver and include the silver versions into the silver set........and really jack the price up.

We have been there and done that have we not Dragon. The worse place you can probably get information about Mint products is from the mint.

Best information I have received is that the presidential coins will not be available in Silver unless something is done very quick.. Very poor chance.

To me that will be a shame becouse one would think the rest of the series , in the years to come , would be made out of the same metal

I hope they get approval for those silver president coins late in the year and have a very limited set. That way the prices will skyrocket like other limited sets. I can dream anyways.
