I was looking at the PCGS website, and they say $16 for modern, is that per coin?

I was asking because I wanted to get my entire nickel collection graded. maybe slowly, but graded.

the reason I ask is also because I have 23 1946-1961 jeff nickels that will grade at least
oh. man. so its really for coins that are rare or very high in grade?

There is also a $8 handling fee per submission. I believe that is per coin. Plus return shipping. The higher the coin value, the higher the return shipping cost.

Figure about $25 - $30 per coin total when all is said and done.

sooo, if I wanted to grade my entire nickel collection (about 50-60 coins total) I should just do the ones that would be at least an ms-65?

I don't know nickels, but I would only have coins graded that are in the $200 and up range.

I would buy airtites for them or use intercept shield snap locks. I use airtites, but I know others who prefer the snap locks.

I buy a lot of books from this site and have purchased airtites from them. I've always been happy.

If you really want your coins graded and put in TPG holders, than by all means, submit them. I don't want to tell you what you should or shouldn't do with your coins. You need to enjoy them and if having them graded makes you enjoy them more, than I would do it. I would join either PCGS or NGC at the level that provides you with some free yearly submissions. I am a member at NGC and get 5 per year. This may take you longer, but for the subscription price, you get some added benefits, so it's pays in the long run.

Also you need to have a PCGS membership in order to submit your coins to them (or you can pay a dealer to do it for you).

Like JP said, any good hard plastic coin holder will protect your coins every bit as well as a slab will, and they are a whole lot cheaper.

I generally only submit coins I feel are worth $300 or more in the grade I expect to be assigned.

The $8 handling charge is per submission, so if you submit 8 coins at $16 each, all on the same submission form (all of the same submission type), you'll only be paying $1 each for handling.

Also bear in mind that $16 is only for modern coins. It is not uncommon for it to cost $40 or more, per coin, to have them graded.

why pay $40-50 dollars on grading if your coin is only worth $10-50 dollars ? that makes no sense at all. only if you are going to keep them forever and not sell them. I would only slab a coin if it was worth $200-1,000+.
