I think we should take some sort of action. We should make clear to everyone that this type of behavior will not be tolerated. We should pull in on a solution that will send a clear message. The people of CoinTalk do not want to be overtaken by a bunch of spam bots and such. I know your efforts are keeping them at bay but we should be on the offensive here a little bit.

I think the only thing we can do that will make a real difference is to educate coin dealers who do use marketing agencies, especially SEO, about what is really being done in their name. The bulk of the spam we fight off, though, is generic spam and the only way we could change that would be to criminalize it and start putting people who do it in prison (and even then most of it comes from countries like China and Russia so it still won't help much). In the meantime the best we can do is keep updating the anti-spam weaponry afforded to us by the software and play whack-a-mole with the ones that crawl through the cracks.

Problem is I know I'm not the only technology inept one out there why I need someone like Peter to figure all this stuff out :)

I sometimes ban over 100 spammers and maybe 2 dozen IP addresses in a single day. Swear I did over 200 one day !

Don't have to do that every day thank God, but it sure is often enough !

What's an average daily number of posts from real members? Just wondering what size of an audience these spammers are actually targeting.

Thanks for the link. It served as a reminder to me, to renew my support. Glad to hear there are some dedicated folks behind the screens, keeping everything running smoothly...

No idea, never cared. It varies from day to day though that much I know. But t's easy enough for you to check yourself since the total post count is listed on the Index page. Just pick a time of day, any time at all, check the post count. Then at the same time the next day check it again.

Strange, I thought the staff could benefit from using Google Analytics or similar software. Here are a few rough estimates I found...

Now, factor in the staff, who increase this rate to 1.8 page views by clicking on multiple topics and making sure they play their daily round of Whack-A-Mole, and in all honesty, the joke is on India or goldandsilveronline.com.;)

OK, now go ahead and do whatever you did to other coin forums you can find, and then compare those numbers to CT. Then I think you'll see why the spammers come here.

The real geo breakdown is approximately 84% US, 7% Canada/UK/Australia, and the rest are a fraction of a percent. 0.60% of CoinTalk's traffic is from India, and I suspect a majority of that is spammers.
