I am, of course, very pleased they chose the Bison design, and I have nothing bad to say about the ocean design, either. However, it would be nice if the design, at least on the Buffalo, was struck in the high relief and with the deeply basined fields found on the original. Not much of a chance of this happening. It would be nice to see a special strike like this for the proofs at least.

So how will this work when it is released... I walk into a bank plop down 2 dollars and ask for a role of the new 2005 nickles ??? or do i have to go through a mint or a dealer to get them... I figure if i can go the bank route aslong as i get them before they have circulated.... anyone know if this can be done.. not really sure on the hows of doing it... I do know alot of people buy roles from the bank so they can go through them for rares i was just wondering if i can ask for a specific coin ie the new 2005.. when it is released...

I just picked up a roll of keelboats at my local bank.I asked if they can order them and they said no.I guess it's just hit or miss at the bank keep going to different ones.

That's how it will work if your bank specifically orders them by the box (which is either $500 or $1,000 worth - I forget) from their supplier, which is usually an armored car company, or a larger bank, except for the huge banks which order directly from the Federal Reserve. Otherwise you'll have to either find another bank that does order new coins by the box, ask your bank to order a box for you, or go to a dealer/eBay/the Mint/etc.

A box of nickels contains 50 rolls, or $100 worth of coins. :)

Any interesting errors or mules in the 2004 nickels found yet?

I like the new design, but after reading this board I found that Virgina has lobbied to make Jefferson permanent, I got a little upset. Nothing should be permanent on any currency.

I have to say that I don't like the obverse design of the 2005. I don't know, it just doesn't look as pleasing to my eye.

the reverse designs are pretty nice though. I have no complaints there.

What about a coin thats a tribute to our fallen soldiers. Just a idea.

i love that idea! but what state will give up ownership of a coin?

they should put the new design on the quarter. it's bigger (more real estate) and it's used all of the time. the obverse could have a pic of a male and female soldier and text that says something like fighting for freedom (or something better) and the reverse could have...hmmmm....a seated liberty*.

*blatantly obvious bias for gobrecht showing here ;)

but it'll never work or even be considered :(
