Usually, but there is often transfer to the other side--definitely the rim, and often the other side. Depends on the level of humidity upon storage.
I feel it nt and not end roll either. To me it looks like a coin that spent about 50 years in old cardboard coin album the acid from the wood pulp gradually worked in from the rim causing this color. I love this effect!! Many of the Eric p Newman coins had this effect from years of similar storage why they were so pretty! I could not live with the damage on the chin tho it's a shame
That is possible. Album toning over 50 years would probably grade, as it would be seen as NT, if the coin were not damaged.
I can post pictures of end roll toned Morgans that are toned on BOTH sides, less so on the second side than the one contacting the paper.
