I'd bean em I'd crack out that anacs and get it in an NGC or pcgs holder first tho I'd choose NGC I think on this one as you might get a star for the color
Thanks ill buy a cheapie toned Morgan seated coin walker etc when I need a fix but I love the early stuff and in higher grade and with good color etc I got expensive taste and not tons of money I wish I could win the powerball or something like that then I could buy the coins I really wanted but I do the best I can with what I got
Not holding my breath as I buy a ticket twice a year if I'm lucky I'd more like to dig up a hoard of early coins in a house I'm working on or better yet taking down(less legal issues if I bought structure and contents) I never found a thing tho a friend found an oak tree shilling I still can't get him to sell it to me!! Dream hoard a 1794,dollar a couple chain cents a '93 liberty cap and a 1796 half and quarter might as well throw in a half disme too
I really need Conders book on slabs or at least a printable version on the ANACS history and progression over the years.
These are a conditional rarity above MS64...as the price reflects. Does this coin appear PL in hand or are the photos deceiving me? It may not have the reflective depth for PCGS to give it the PL designation...but it certainly looks like it's leaning towards PL.
I gave it a try using their reconsideration service. I was sure it would get a plus grade at least. But no. It is slightly prooflike in-hand, but did not get the designation. Still, in MS64 it's $1500+
Oh...it's valuable for sure, no doubt about it. A very nice piece. I know that PCGS and NGC have very specific guidelines as to what PL and DMPL must be. To get those designations...you must be able to read words off a card from a certain distance in the reflection. I can't remember the distance...but it's several inches for PL and further for DMPL. Of course, both services use different distances. I'm sure they also use a specific font size, but I don't know what it is.
I see a lot of MS64 and 65 Morgans at shows that look PL to me, yet they don't get the designation. They are reflective, but not labeled PL. Must be a tough criteria.
On this one the design elements are very, very frosty but the fields are not PL enough to get the designation. But that frosty eagle and wreath and Ms. Liberty fools you because it creates great contrast.
