Are there any good books, besides the Red Book, about coin collecting?

I like the ANA book of grading standards. I'm writing a short book about collecting coins. It will help people avoid a few mistakes.

I guess I misread your initial post.

No, I just wanted to get some idea what sort of competition I will have when I go to get my book published.

I've only got fifty pages so far, and a lot of that is pictures of my own coins. Can you think of anything in particular I should write about?

    doug444 STAMPS and POSTCARDS too!

I just listed a very fine book about Virgil Brand, written by Q. David Bowers, it's at the top of the sales list. From around 1890 to about 1910, Brand bought everything that wasn't nailed down, and he didn't care if he bought half a dozen of the same rarity.

I'd like to earn a little money. I'm sixty-one years old and don't want to wait till I'm seventy to retire. I think it's a pretty good book. I've been collecting since I took a paper route in 1963.

There are tons of books out there with excellent information...no reason why one more won't hurt anything. I have never tried to get a book published, but with such a large amount of competition...it might be difficult.

One person here who does have a coin related book published is Condor101. His book is quite specific to slabs...but he might be a good source for advice.

My book apparently will be very short, since I've almost run out of things to say, after fifty pages, and more than half of that is pictures of my coins, supplies, spreadsheets, and web pages. I'm sharing a few lessons I've learned about the hobby.

Here's a list of 12 books that I think are fantastic. If you click on the cover, you'll be re-directed to a written book review along with a link on Amazon.com where you can purchase them.

Don't forget that treashunt aka Frank Colletti wrote the "Official Guidebook to the RedBook"
