1918 lincoln possible strike through

    I know its a good coin to talk about, what ever got stuck between the planchet and die caused some issues

    It looks like it was struck through a car-crusher.........over and over and over again!

    Rick - How do you know it is a split planchet? With that much damage I would tend to think that
    a) it's just more damage
    b) would be too hard to tell if it actually was a split planchet.

    that dent in his chest if where the coin started folding as the kid screwed the vise tighter an tighter, an the opposite side shows the stress cracks in the metal...

    And the two flat parts of the rim opposite is where the coin was touching the vice. :)

    yuppers, some kid trying to fold a penny an it probably flew out of the vise an got lost, then found some time later while someone was sweeping the shop an tossed into a change jar...

    it is pretty cool, know it happen a long time ago, I did find a 39 with a nice split planchet, ( reverse ) I'll post it tomorrow
