Your photos, when enlarged, are very blurry, but the alignment of the "In" with "God We Trust" doesn't look right. It could be a fake. Chris
A common date and it's been cleaned within an inch of its life I see lines all over the obverse is worth silver melt
Actually the simplest test. If the magnet attracted it, it would be made of a ferrous metal, and silver is not a ferrous metal. So, first test good. If you can weigh it, this would be the second test. 26.73 grams is the correct weight and any significant difference would be a "flag". Looks decent to me, but then I'm not an expert.
An interesting thing came up for me recently when I decided to consign a lot of medals to a friend of mine. I tried the magnetic test on a bunch of the medals that were of unknown composition, and none of them were attracted to the magnet. So, I decided to try the magnetic test on some medals that I knew were definitely not silver. Guess what?! None of these were magnetic! So, I can only conclude that the magnetic test doesn't always work. I still think this 1921 Morgan is a fake. Take a close look at the horizontal alignment of "In" to "God We Trust". You can see that it is definitely misaligned (higher). I've collected Morgan dollars since 1957, and I have never, never, never seen one with this mistake. Chris
The magnet test DOES work, but only to distinguish ferrous metals which are cheap and easily cast or struck. Agree completely with the rest of what you say.
Whitehead & Hoag produced a lot of medals in the middle decades of the 20th century. Many of them were struck in white metal to keep costs down. None of these are magnetic. Chris
WOW you have a better eye vision than I... I took some of my morgans out now and I cant tell any difference in mine from the one in the photo above... but I am not questioning your perfection but mine I cant tell the difference... IN to GOD WE TRUST IS.. mis alignment... I am still looking... magnet test... weigh test...
Yeah! The original photos were too blurry for my eyes. The alignment looks a lot better, so I retract my original concerns. Chris
Definitely been cleaned. Crazy thing is Morgans are going for more than melt even if cleaned, premium seems to keep going up. Think my LCS has them at 4+ now, and they can't hold them.
