yeah I still can't get anybody to tell me an actual guide value of the token. Wish I had one of those token guides
As a token collector I find most guides are outdated and difficult to keep up to date. Current/recent sale prices are my best guide. When we actively metal detected we would have guys follow in a car offering to buy our tokens. We never sold them till we could determine the value.Never sold anything else either, as some stuff you just never even know what it is.I once found a weird, rusted up tool like thingy. I had no idea what it was. I showed it to a friend who was a weapons expert(bonded, etc.) and he offered me an Indians plains rifle for it.It was just the tool he wanted for a booklet he was writing. The toll was an 1841 Miss. rifle multi-tool, used to strip the rifle for cleaning and repairs.-Who Knew!
Goldbill does ur token guide have my token in it? If it does what does it give for a value? Does it tell any of the history of the token? If it does please tell me im dieing to know. Pm me if u want to
Kickindirt-First, yes I still detect, just not like I used to. We had a group 3-4, we would research an area first, get permission, then hit it on Sat and Sun. mornings. As to your token, I cannot locate it in any of my guides. The only place I found it was on the Holabird Auction site, so, I went back and rechecked it, though in better condition than yours is currently, it was sold in 2011, expected price-$400-800 up 2,000. It sold for $650.00. I did a zillion google searches, I found Palisade, NV. now a ghost town in N E NV., Eureka County. The town was pretty much a railroad town and catered to travelers. R. Siri & Co. most likely was a store or saloon offering drinks and cigars among other things. However, it could have been a brothel token as well. These types of tokens were rarely marked as such and looked like saloon tokens. Thus they could fly under the radar, if you will. I would suggest getting in touch with the local county historical society and talking to some one there, you might then be able to learn more about your token. I could not find R. Siri & Co. anywhere., But some one knows. Also, be careful about your token. If really rare, condition is not so much a factor.Prices follow accordingly. Let me know what you learn
Hey thx goldbill i have contacted Holabird Auction site, they gave me a price of what they expected it to sell for. I was just trying to figure a fair price if i decided to sell it to a collector on here or anywhere else. Anyways just call fred at Holabird he said the Siri&Co family owned a bar and another merchandise store in Palisade. Also said hasnt had any to sell in 5yrs. Said should be able to get 750-1000 or more. Wow
Hi Kickindirt, My apologies for the late reply, but I have been in Chamelco, Guatemala since March 27th and did not have internet access. I just returned and saw your message. I do have some information regarding your token, however, it is a bit dated. From "Nevada Trade Tokens" (1990) by Len Hoskins, John Schilling, and Hal Dunn, Palisade was located in Eureka County. The id number for your token is Pb-1 (there are two additional tokens listed from Palisade). The metal is listed as being brass. Of the 75 collections surveyed in writing this reference, your token was in 11 of them. Value (remember, from 1990) was listed at $200. For reference, token Pb-2 was in 1 collection, and Pb-3 was in 2 collections. Values for each of those tokens was listed at $300. "Nevada Trade Token Place Names" (1973) by Hal V. Dunn and Duane H. Feisel indicates that Palisade is a ghost town, and that the Post Office closed in 1960. Tokens from Palisade are listed as being scarce (in 13-25 of the 36 collections surveyed). The (1973) value for your token in this reference was $4-$5. Eureka County is shown to be just east of the approximate center of the state. Thank you for your kind words, green18.
