everything counts ... who made-up any "rules" ... Ummm, in case you haven't noticed => this is stevex6's thread => rules? ... the only rule is => don't be a punk!! "All" coins are welcome!!
Okie dokie then, if we're going to add provincials, here's a dog-ish coin (more puppy than cur though). Domitia is 167 on the list... but that doesn't really apply to this coin. PHRYGIA, Cibyra (Kibyra) Domitian & Domitia, 81-96 AD AE24 Obv: ΔOMITIANOC KAICAP ΔOMITIA CEBACTE, laureate head of Domitian and Domitia facing one another Rev: EΠI APXIEPEΩC KΛAV BAINTOC KI BY; Zeus seated left, holding out hand and sceptre Ref: RPC 1262; Sear-896, SNG Aulock-3731
I guess my best on this list would be Carus, but I only have my old photos of him. I looooooooove my Diocletian
I was able to post my new Aelia Eudoxia in the Birthday thread, so i will go with Aelia Flaccilla. Aelia Flaccilla..379-386.AD. Wife of Theodosius l, Augusta.. Diademed and drapped bust right.. Rev. Victory seated right, inscribing chi-rho on shield. T to right..ANTE Mint Antioch 22mm x 5.8g.
Wow => those are great examples!! Ummm, I lost track => was it Bing that had the rarest example yet? ... either way ... Please keep posting your rarest Roman Ruler/ess ... man, I never get tired of viewing your awesome coins!! Cheers, brothers (great participation!!) ...
My 'rarest' on the list is my Drusus that you all may be getting tired of seeing soon! Drusus is number 123 on the list.
Great coin, Manitoba (top-drawer, brother) => I "never" get tired of seein' that bad boy!! (thanks for posting)
In at number 140 are the three Magnia Urbicas (two from Lugdunum and one from Rome) I have owned though I am now down to one (the rarest Lugdunum one from officina A) having parted with two of them in recent times....
atta-boy Martin ... => I knew a couple of the big gun-slingers would eventually show-up and post their really cool Gordian III's!!
As a point of curiosity, I wonder what the "other" coins refer to in 106 - Anonymous. Are they the anonymous quadrantes? Roman Empire, Anonymous, Domitian to Antoninus Pius AE Quadrans, 3.25g, Rome mint: AD 81-161 Obv.: Diademed and draped bust of Venus right. Rev.: Dove standing right, S-C. Reference: RIC II 24 (p. 218) Notes: Countermark "AU" in field above dove, possibly from a university collection.
Gordian III (238 - 244 A.D.) AR Antoninianus O: IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right, from behind. R: VICTORIA AETERNA, Victory standing left, leaning on shield, holding palm frond in left, captive at feet left. Rome 4.7g 23mm RIC 156
Nicely played, brother ... man, I love those sweet Gordian III's (that dude cranked-out a whole lotta beautiful denarii!!) ... you rock, Mat!
sadly ... well, not so sadly, I have to go have dinner and then spend the night with my gal ... => I hope that you dudes keep this awesome thread burnin' (I will probably touch-base again later tonight) ..... hey, thanks for a fun Saturday late-afternoon (good coin-times) Cheers
Nice thread and interesting info, Steve. The best I can do is #137 : HANNIBALLIANUS as Rex Regum AE4 1.48g, 16mm. Constantinople mint, 336 - 337 AD. RIC VII 147, LRBC 1034, Cohen 2. O: FL HANNIBALLIANO REGI, bare-headed, draped, cuirassed bust right. R: SECVRITAS PVBLICA, Euphrates seated right on ground, holding sceptre, overturned urn at his side, from which waters flow, reed in background. Mintmark CONSS.
Wow, you guys have been bringin' some great rare-coins to this thread (awesome) ... Doug => always nice seeing your melting Romulus (very cool addition to a very cool thread) ... I was waiting for you to pull-out #207 (maybe you're waiting a bit longer before you spring the show-stopper on us?) => hey, like I stated earlier => "everybody" has a coin that fits this thread, so man-up and post 'em!!
