I do not see why there is such a big hype over these new HOF coins. However it is going to take them a while to ship the coins out because it does take a while to mint these coins. I don't think they expected to have orders this large and that is why they are behind. As for the bag they have millions of them that they do not make. No so sure why you bought the bag for though. any other reusable bag is just as good.
I dont really see why they should be behind to begin with. The Mint are the ones who established the mintages of 50K, 400K, and 400K. They should have all been made and then melted if not sold. At least the precious metal ones anyway, mint the clads on demand. All in all they should have known these were going to be a big hit. They are a pretty big deal afterall, you have a new, revolutionary shape of a coin from the US, it plays on the heartstrings of coin collectors and baseball enthusiasts alike. That all spells out TONS of potential for these coins. I bet we havent even really seen what the Baseball aficionados do over these, 90% or better of the mints orders were from coin collectors, or coin collectors who enjoy baseball. I wonder what happens when the average Joe who is really into baseball finds out. I like to consider myself a decently knowledgeable coin collector and even I almost missed out on getting in on the HOF coins. Glad i didnt though.
Ya know what gets me? They're shipping the bags UPS. Why? For the coins I can see doing this but for the bag? Nah.........
Signature confirmation from UPS ? Now that is funny. The only thing UPS does is ring the doorbell, upset the dog, and are halfway down the street before you can open the door. Package left on the doorstep waiting for anyone to pick up.
Same for me - I put in an order for the clads and the silvers. The silvers both show in stock and reserved. Been that way for a couple days. But they only shipped the bag. Clads show as shipping 4/3. It's 4/4 today... LOL! Your govt. at work!
I missed UPS this AM so they left me a card to sign for delivery of the shopping bag. Oops lost it. lol
debating whether I should buy the silver hof coin or not. $55 that is twice that of an american eagle. Do yall think it will be twice as collectable as an ASE?
No the Congress set the mintage limits not the Mint. OK you can sell 50K gold coins so you are going to go ahead and strike them. How many proofs and how many business strikes are you going to coin? You don't know how many of each are going to be ordered, and you aren't allowed to coin more than 50K. Same question for the silver dollars. You don't know. So you strike up a modest amount of each say 10K proof and unc each of the gold and 100K proof and unc of the silver dollars. Then the sales do a runaway, everything is on back order and you coin to order. Nothing happens because average Joe baseball fan doesn't care about the coin. They said the same thing about the Marine Corps dollar, that there were over a million marines and former marines and families of marines who would all want one of these coins and the prices would go skyhigh. They sold out quickly and nine years later they are still common low price coins not much more than issue price. Why? Because they were all bought by coin collectors and by and large the individual marines couldn't care less about them. Even the average Joe baseball fan doesn't care about "Baseball", he just cares about "his" team.
It's an American Commemorative coin and not in the same class as an ASE. You have to make the decision as to whether you want to collect coins for the love and fun of it or for their intrinsic value. Either way you can lose money. Traditionally, modern commems lose value once they leave the mint. Many of them go for significantly less than their original issue price in the aftermarket. ASE's are tied to the bullion market and the spot price of silver on any particular given day. If you bought your eagles 'high' you could lose a significant amount of money if Ag. were ever to 'tank'. Either way, it's a crap shoot. Personally, I believe the HOF coins will hold their value with the passage of time. Hey, but what do I know? I'm just a humble collector who's only interested in keeping his modest modern menagerie current.........
