A friend on facebook sold me this coin. He has an incredible eye for coins and is well respected in the groups. I never see him trying to sell coins, so in a conversation I mentioned im looking for XF & AU cents, not expecting him to sell anything. But he responded with some pics of this coin. No close ups, just your typical overall view of the slab, both sides, just enough to make out the toning. Im a stickler for distraction marks, especially on ONE CENT. Ive turned down gorgeous coins in the past because ONE CENT is just such a focal point for me. So I ask him " Are there any distraction marks I should be aware of? " He responded with "Nothing that bothers me"..... and from that moment on I knew I found my first keydate. I did not haggle the list price he asked, he included shipping and a money back guarantee if I didnt like the coin. When I receive the coin, I had to laugh at my myself, because Im such a pain in the butt about distraction marks on ONE CENT, of course, OF COURSE there would be a scratch on the case, the only major scratch, right across ONE CENT !!!! I love this coin, the toning is beautiful and it looks to be well taken care of. If I had to pick on something, it would be the fact that I was expecting the bowtie to be a little bit fuller, but otherwise I have nothing bad to say. PLUS, he sent me a little gift. Im always busting chops saying " You know, christmas is coming soon, and that coin would be a nice stocking stuffer. Just sayin..." or stuff like that. So he sent me a note and a plastic box that sais "Dont say I never gave you anything lol".. In the box was $1.40 fv of silver, including a walking liberty, washington quarter, barber quarter and the rest roosies. PLUS a V nickel, 6 dated buffalos and a bunch of 1938-1949 jeffersons. I was touched and surprised he sent that stuff. It really made my day
Also, I have a hard enough time lighting a raw coin, these pics were almost impossible. I spent about an hour taking pics, setting up the light and camera angle, only to get aggravated and use the original pics I took, holding the camera and taking just quick shots lol
Bummer about the scratch on the slab. From my experiences polishing scratches off slabs that one looks deep enough that you won't be able to get rid of it. Either you'll have to live with it OR send it back to get reslabbed (that costs money). BTW nice coin. Congrats.
Im ok with the scratch. Im not too familiar with slabs yet, but this looks to be an old PCGS slab, and I think its in pretty nice shape for its age. Do you know when they stopped using this design of slab? Ive heard about "rattlers" and this one doesnt rattle.
I went to the PCGS site and read about this coin, is it true that some guy bought a hoard of 200.000 uncirculated of these coins?
Wow. Well that explains why flat the pricing is on them across the grades. Thats almost the equivelant of $29,000 today. ($2000 in 1931)
By the listing of "PCGS Generations" by conder101 this is a PCGS 15 holder and was first used in Jan 2006.

It is alittle out dated today as the type 13 is the last slab and that has the slab being currently used. Sorry my last post was from a different list and something seems alittle bit different. I will have to go compare all my different lists.
