This is probably a speculation thread, but here goes... We all have seen professional athletes that are described as having "ice in their veins," meaning that nothing affects them and despite the pressure, they perform every time. Also, they used to say, "Never buy a car that was made on a Monday or Friday." Implying that people care less and don't complete their jobs well when they're tired and don't want to be there. I know that for most of us, stress, anxiety, promotions, and just life in general can affect our job performance. What about TPG graders? Do you think the desire to uphold their reputation keeps "ice in their veins?" Or would they be harder on coins if life was being harder on them? Hmm.
they have to be consistent with their work. They are trained to grade coins as if they are robots and after several years experience you can grade a coin as soon as you get a look at it.
Everybody can have a bad day, even the best athletes in the world. A pro ball player can have a lifetime batting average of, say, .400 and still have a lot of "0-fers". It's consistency that counts because nobody is perfect. Chris
maybe for april fools day they will grade a f-12 morgan at MS65 just for laughs or perhaps do the opposite and just make the person mad. I wonder if this has ever happened before
Don't buy a coin graded on Monday or Friday......... I think that saying pertains more to the fact that workers tend to call in sick on Mondays and Fridays and the extra workload gets foisted off onto other workers who can't handle the extra burden efficiently. Along with that I will add that graders are human just like everyone else. The stress and pressure in their personal lives I'm sure can affect them. Like Chris mentioned above though, it's all about consistency. This would hold true for all of us in our daily lives.........
Everybody can have a bad day at work due to personal issues or anything else. But, just like any job...they are employees and are expected to be held to a certain standard of quality. If they cannot do that...and do it consistently, I doubt they will be working long. It would be just like anybody else. If a construction worker has a bad day at home because he had a fight with his wife...does the building collapse? I would hope not. There is a certain level of quality that is expected in any job.
Now, a dentist is a totally different story. I'll be darned if I'd want one working on my teeth while nursing a hangover. They can have bad days on the weekends. Chris
What about a heart surgeon...or the guy that built your house? I wasn't thinking about a hang over...but what if your surgeon had a fight with his wife that morning. In any job there is a certain quality that must be met...even on the worst day of the worker. If not, that person won't be working long. This is even true of low level unskilled workers. Do you want to guy making your burger at McDonalds not paying attention because of problems at home. The next thing you know...you will be eating a burger than has spent a little too much time on the floor.
I doubt it. I mean, it's so ridiculously easy to tell the difference between MS65 and MS65+ that even if you were going through a divorce and your dog had died and your car got repoed, it would still be plain as day.
Damned fingers getting knotted up and not letting me type what I want to type, you know about the woes of one of our fine forumites at a large retailer. Stupid digits, like censorship at the ends of my paws.
You've obviously never been to my mcdonalds. They almost never get my order correct. I guess it's hard when you only want cheese, they're trained to put all that goop on the burgers
