In hand always makes a world of difference.

Your pics are very nice, but the luster can not be determined. With no idea of the luster I would say an MS grade anywhere from 63-65 would not surprise me.

As for all the AU comments even if it is AU it can be no less than 58

I believe the high point toning is throwing many guesses off. That is very common with this series and is not indictive of wear. This also happens on the walker series quite often. Probably others too.

The spots on the reverse are more of a concern to me than any wear for a high grade.

I would say those spot are microscopic in hand. That is a very large pic

I have no idea how that one did not get spit on by them. Virtually every other woody I have seen by then showed their obvious disdain for woodys.

    Congratulations!

Why don't the TPGs like woodys? My experience is the same as yours...they don't seem to get the same grades as "normal" cents. I know the woody is a result of an improper alloy mix...do they consider that a flaw even though the coins look really cool (IMHO)?

In their eyes, the ideal coin is one solid pure color (with the exception of rainbows). Obviously woodys are not. Consequently, they get downgraded. Not the only reason, but one reason I like them is because I can get what I consider a 65 in a 63 slab and price.

I guess that makes sense...I personally love how they appear and if I can get a nice piece cheaper because of this "beloved flaw" I'll take it. :D

Overall this guy came right in the wheelhouse of where I thought it should grade.... Thankfully.

I was hoping that you might get an MS65 but I think that the MS64 is a fair rating. Will you list this one on your website? It is my bucket list coin.

It'll probably go to CAC then be for sale.

WOW! Now that is the right grade for that woody!

Since you said it was right where you expected it to be...I assume you think CAC will agree with a green sticker (which is why you will send it). Is that a correct assumption?

I never send a coin to CAC that I don't think is going to get the sticker... I'm not always right... hahah... but that's the plan at least.

I guess what I was getting at is...you think this is a solid MS63RB. Is that correct? I think it's a beauty...and nice woody 09-S VDB like that is a dream coin of mine. If I was a little further along in my career and had some disposable income...you'd probably be getting a phone call from me.

I thought the coin was a solid mid range mint state. The coin ended coming back 64RB. Which was right in my wheelhouse.

I meant ms64. I probably shouldn't be online before breakfast. My brain doesn't seem to be up and running. Lol
