ads on cointalk if you dont like the ads dont start threads about them. you said you saw an ad for H&R BLOCK! if you dont want to see H&R BLOCK promoted on this web-site, dont start a dicsussion about the ad you saw for H&R BLOCK! if the web site owner needs to sell ads to keep the site going, then thats his business. the site is still free, so I dont have a problem with ads. certainly nothing objectionable about ads from H&R BLOCK!!!! did you see any other ads? or did you see an ad only for H&R BLOCK?
Let's be real, how do you think that the owner of this forum can keep it up and runing? For Free? Let it go. Ignore the ads that you don't like.
There's nothing wrong with having adds. They're not intrusive and like Frank said how's the owner going to keep this forum running. Just enjoy the forum. Lou
I've kept sites up for free for years, and I doubt that adds can cover any serious expenses. Genrally the servers are being used for something else or a spare server is used, etc. Its a work of love... Ruben
I've got no problems with the adds myself and if they help out the site then great, or if the owner wants them then great, he owns it, but wow some people can be a bit touchy... Its not like he cleaned a coin, all the guy did was aska question.... Maybe I didn't read it correctly, I didn't take what he posted as bashing the site or anything like that...
Yep, the ads have been on here for years. And, nope, they don't bring in much money. Over the past year or so I've sold off most of my collection to support this site. I hope the improvements I've been working on the past couple of months will prove worth it. But, yea, there's no deep-pocket corporation behind the site. Just me. And I'm rather average as far as financial situations go, though I do have big hopes to win the lottery next week. There have also been some generous donations from members, which have gone a long way to keeping the site thriving and toward the improvements.
This may be obvious and I am missing it but where does one donate? I would be more than willing to plunk a few bucks down to help out, this site is a good thing...it is one of 3 sites I read having to do with coins...one being purely ancients. Id ont use anything but the forum but I enjoy the forums, reading about coins, seeing what others are collecting, etc...
I would also like to help with a few bucks ,as far as i know no one has ever asked for help,i am new here and would like to see this keep going, its got me interested in coins again and thats a good thing,if you do not take donations then just let me say thinks for a great site
Peter, i think you should put a banner or something on the home page for donations. I remember awhile back you were taking donations for (a new server?) or something and i couldnt find any thing with a quick search.
Am I missing something? All I read was a simple question about have we always had ads on this site. All we really needed to say was yes. I didn't read where wvrick said he didn't like the ads. I never read where he said they were wrong either. I would cut him some slack. I hope I don't offend anyone, but I don't see any reason jumping his case about his question. All he wanted was an answer. Someone correct me if I'm wrong or am missing something, but I only see a harmless question. Am I missing something?
I agree... For the most part the people here are extreamly nice.... Maybe someone was just having a bad day or we read to much into his response and he really wasn't trying to come off so harsh...:thumb: (No cheers/Beer Smiley)
I also agree with Phoenix21. Part of the reason we're all here is to ask and answer questions, whether they be about coins and currency or the site itself and no one should be shot down for doing so. This is certainly the type of behavior that discourages people from the site and the hobby whether it be here or a rude dealer at a coin show....same difference. We're all here to help and share with each other. Of course, this is just my opinion.
