Hello, all! I've picked up two Peace Dollars (1922-S and 1925-P) that I think I got a decent deal on when you take their condition into account. The grading system seems very complicated to me. I've seen examples of Peace Dollars that, in my own opinion, are less attractive than mine, but receive MS grades.. But, I've also seen coins comparable to mine that receive grades in the range of 45-58. Confusing.... If I were to post pics, could some of you give an approximate grade based on your experience and familiarity with the grading system? Any help would be much appreciated. I think I've got two great coins that are worth sending in.
The folks here are very helpful. As Tom said, go for it. Looking forward to seeing your pics and your cost.
I'm having trouble uploading the reverse. The picture of the obverse doesn't do the coin justice. It's VERY lustrous! There really is an art to this and I have yet to get it.
$50 is decent price if the coins are uncirculated with no problems. I am no Peace Dollar expert so we will have to wait for the expert to arrive at the scene.
When you say "whizzed", what does that mean? I'm new at this and I'm not very familiar with a lot of coin terminology. I'm trying to learn. I'm relatively young and don't have anyone who shares my interest in coins that can teach me.
Whizzed = high speed polishing. It actually moves some of the metal on the surfaces. I'm sure one of the mods will jump in and give you a better definition. Mine is in laymans terms.
The hair line scratches on the obverse make me believe it was cleaned for sure. Live and learn... that's the name of the game.
