AAA won't do it. I've been told that most international airports will have a place to do this. Are there any other options? It's not a lot; just a few dollars worth of Canadian coins and a 2 Euro coin.
You can use Canadian coins at tolls, at least here in Upstate NY. The Euro coin is tougher, we haven't found a good way to exchange. Our shop usually waits until we fill a bag with about 100 Euro in coin, and then sell on eBay.
Hardly any forex place will exchange coins; too much of a hassle to "repatriate" them. Now if you had, say, ten €2 coins, I'd say ship them to a friend of mine in the US, and I'll paypal-or-so the equivalent (currently $27). But with one, that is not such a good idea because of the postage ... Maybe you could simply donate it? Many airports have those plastic boxes where you can drop all kinds of coins ... for a good cause. Christian
I've never heard of a Forex accepting coins. For the most part, the smallest they'll exchange is the $20 equivalent note in their local currency.
There are 2 mail services available to obtain US currency in exchange. Canadiancoinexchange.com will convert Canadian coins to US funds. Euro Coin Exchange will also do other foreign currencies. Both have excellent turn times and are very reliable.
While I like Christian's suggestion to donate it to charity, you might also find a friend who would like them. I'm retired and know several other retired folks. Almost every year one or the other of them goes on a vacation. If you come back from your vacation with a handful for coins just give them to the next old couple going there. You might even ask them to buy you a chocolate bar (or whatever) when they return. When you travel, it does help to plan ahead and run out of money before you return. This became a lot easier when the Euro came along and eliminated half the currencies. Many of you will say you don't know anyone going anywhere. Make more friends. Tip heavily in restaurants (Eat Greek, tip Euros; Eat Mexican, tip Pesos). I can't say I know a Canadian restaurant near me.
the canadian coins (except the half dollar) are the same size as their equivalent US coins, so you can just roll them up with the american ones. if you have a CAD half dollar or $2 coin, (same with the €2 coin) you can probably sell them at a coin store. the LCS near me pays exchange rate minus 5%.
I have had no bids, Probably 75 Euros, and 50 Pds UK , but not in bills, just coin,. I have not tried Craig, Or Ebay.... no US bank will take coin that's my scope.
