Nice buy! Another way to identify silver is by portrait type, all the young portrait Elizabeths are .800 fine.

Yea the 8 silver ones are actually pretty obvious from the pics, you definitely got lucky on that one :)

Thanks for the tip about the portraits. I am not an expert on the series but I was trying to fill in holes in my collection when I saw this. It's hard to believe that in an auction ending on a Sunday evening with a seller whose other items were getting multiple bids that no one else saw this. EBay is funny like that sometimes.

I can only guess they were waiting to snipe and missed it. Or, out bids in sniping software and a technical delay caused them not to get accepted on ebay's end in time. This is known to happen sometimes and why I never use sniping software.

They came today and there were indeed 8 silver quarters. The dates range from 1951 to 1968. It's a little more than an ounce of silver, and several of the dates are ones I didn't have, so I'm happy.

sweet pick-up ... face-value alone, those babies are worth $4.50 (so obviously the 8 cool silver examples are merely money-in-the-bank!!)

=> my favourite is your 1968 Silver quarter (the last year of the Ag quarters => they had Nickel and Silver quarters that year) ..... oh, and who doesn't love the good ol' 1967 Lynx/Bobcat, right?

Not a huge money-maker, but certainly a great deal (especially if a few of them help complete your set!!) ... congrats

Yes, I got one silver 1968 and three 1968s that were not silver. I was surprised how easy it is to tell the difference. I guess there are two varieties of the 1967 with different silver purities but I don't know how you'd know. I do like the animal designs on all the 1967 coins. I think I have all but the 50 cents. And you're right, it's not a huge money maker but I'm not a high-roller when it comes to coins so for me this is a great deal.
