I dont know about that price, just a pic i found on web was wondering if anyone knew anything, price guide or something?
I like how it says 12 and a half cents. We are generous enough to give you 12 cents, but 13 cents? NO WAY. How about 12 and A HALF cents?
Sure...why not? Many tokens are quite rare and highly collected, especially in high grade. There was a time when a half cent was a very useful denomination for a couple reasons. It had purchasing power on it's own and it was useful in making change with foreign denominations.
Some of the priciest Civil War era tokens were the ones that were issued in the South, one or two in Virginia and one in Alabama. Even the Rulau catalog is seriously out of date price wise on those.
I can believe that. I'm not a token collector...but I have seen some go for very high prices. I think it's interesting that our local "entrepreneur" seemed shocked that some tokens can carry high value.
