Here's a fairly well circulated 1 cent coin issued by the British East India Company in 1810 for use in Penang, in current day Malasia. It's becoming increasingly difficult to find decent examples of these coins, and expensive when you do. Fascinating to think that this was issued during Napoleons hay day, the madness of King George III etcetera when these two great colonial powers (Btritain and France) were dramatising their enmity towards each other across the known universe. Little to do with Penang of course, but it was a fascinating time none the less.
Ian,there are several varieties in the Penang 1c. coins, especially in the number of flowers on the reverse. Aidan.
I'll be in Penang next week. I'll try to find some local coins and post them when I get home. So far I've only been able to locate one local dealer.
