Hey everyone ! Haven't been online in a while as I have been taking a break from coins. I'm actually still taking a break but I came across a coin for a good price and just decided - the hell with it. For anyone interested....check it out !

Got em for $20.00 - hopefully it was worth it!

My first new coin in months:

BTW, I will give you a tip, there A LOT of coins that seem like good buys to the novice collector, but always search for better deals before pulling the trigger.

When I first started collecting I found a lot of coins that made me think "WOW, that's cheap, but ended up overpaying quite a bit because I didn't look them up.

When you're grading foreign coins, find similar types on eBay and study them - before bidding or making a commitment.

If you enjoy the coin and are willing to pay 20 bucks for it I don't see any problem with it. People love to shout out 'you overpaid' but if it is worth it to you who cares? It isn't their coin.

I am sure you can easily get 20 bucks of fun out of that coin.

I've been collecting coins seriously for about 5 years now and I still can't grade that well. MS grades are greek to me.

To make your head hurt more, the UK uses a grading system that is different than ours, wait to you see a coin graded as "GEF".

BTW, here is a good site on Canadian grading. Not THE BEST, but it's a good free resource.

Yeah thanks, that's a good idea. I was pretty quick on the trigger for this one..
Btw, do you know what the yellow colorish tint comes from ? I kinda like that look but is it something negative to a coin's value ?

I think alot of people take the term "you overpaid" too seriously and get angry over it.

I just use is as a learning experience.

Coins are only worth what YOU are willing to pay for them, and if you though it's a good deal, then at least your are not beating yourself up about it.

You should never feel bad you overpaid, just think of it as paying for an education.

Oh man yess....MS grades to me are just way over my head as well. And that's the site I use too! It's basically the only decent one I could find :p

Yeah thanks ! I'm pretty sure I can even send it back and get a refund (I have 14 days) but I'm sort of thinking to keep it, just cause I like it haha :D

Not sure. There are all kinds of different storage environments coins are stored in and each one is a special recipe for how a coin will look.

Even sunlight will tone coins. I left a untoned mercury dime on the dash of my car all winter and it toned.

Cigar smoke, living near the ocean, living near a factory, sunlight, extreme swings in temperature, can all cause a coin to tone.

Toning is basically a nice way of saying the metal of the coin had a chemical reaction with something.

and...some coins are worth over paying if you have not seen them on the market for 10-20 years.
