this wheat cent caught my eye while going thru wheaties this evening. it appears that the O ine one cent is almost gone and the LI in liberty is almost gone also. does this happen alot? i have never seen a wheatie like this before. i don't think the letters wore off.

I'm no expert on this, and anyone feel free to correct me, but I have seen this sort of thing if recesses in the die became full of grease or dirt. I have a couple of mint cents from a roll missing parts of the legends, even though they were fully struck otherwise.

Yup, grease-filled die. I discovered the same thing on the reverse of my '41 quarter

As an error coin no, as a wheatie - 2 - 3 cents.

It looks like it might be struck on a thin planchet. It could also be a "die adjustment strike." I would e-mail pics of it to Fred Weinberg, and see what he thinks. http://www.fredweinberg.com/

If it was a thin planchet, the entire coin would be weakly struck, not just one point. Even if the planchet was a tapered planchet, it whould show more effect.
As for a 'set up strike' the entire coin would be VERY weakly struck, not one point. And you cannot generally tell those on a circ coin, since it looks like it was badly worn.
    Greased die it is.
Value= 2 cents to me, as a wheatie, to you= priceless.
