I am just curious if anyone has ever found proof coins in rolls. I have only ever found a 1991-s cent in a roll. about everyone else?
I've found dozens of proof halves in rolls (out of about $40,000 worth) but only two proof cents (out of $2,500 worth).
I have found 3 proof halves searching coins from a bank 1977-S, 1984-S, 1988-S 7 proof nickels 1971-S, 1972-S, 1973-S, 1977-S, 1980-S, 1993-S, 2004-S (keelboat) and 1 dime from a mint set 1996-W Haven't found any quarters yet, though I search those the least frequently. Haven't found any pennies yet either, which surprises me because I search those frequently.
I have only ever found proof halves while searching rolls, but they are actually the reason that I keep searching. I'm only finding about 5-8 silver halves per $500, but I'm really just trying to put together a complete set of kennedys from circulation. I used to search a lot of pennies and nickles but I never found any. I've found proof halves from 1972, 1973, 1976, 1978 x 2, 1987, 1991, 1995, 1997 x 2, 2002, and 2002 Silver. I've also found some halves that were not released for circulation - 1970D, 1987P, 2002P, 2003P.
I know this discussion is about finding examples of Proof coins in ordinary bankk rolls, but the one thing that no one has mentioned yet is that you can get rolls of coins where every example is a Proof. Now you're not likely to get them from a bank, but it is certainly possible.
Yes, that is probably my best pull from a roll. I was more excited about that than anything I've found before! After I found that, I realized that I could probably put together a complete set of Kennedy's from circulation. I think the next difficult ones will be the 68S, 69S, 70S, and the silver proofs. But I've already found 1 silver proof, so I'm sure I'll come across more. Ironic that I just posted to this thread this morning. I went to the bank today and picked up the three boxes of halves that I ordered. I just got done going through the boxes of halves ($500 each). I started off very bad - nothing in the first box. Nothing in the second box until the last two rolls - (1) 1969 and a very nice looking 1976D. The third box I found a very nice looking 1971D. Then I found (4) 1967, (3) 1968 D. (Thats about average of what I've been finding in silver.) I also found 2005P, 2005D, 1971S, 1972S, 1976S, 1978S, 1979S,1982S! (6) proofs, (2) two non-circulating, and (7) 40% in one box!! Too bad 3 of the proofs are dups of what I've already got. I'm not complaining though.
In two years of searching halves I found 16 proofs: 1977, 1979 (2), 1981, 1984, 1986 (2), 1990 (2), 1992, 1993, 1997, 1998 (2), 2002, 2005 Most were pretty beaten up, but a few looked really good.
found from rolls halfs: 1977s,78s,82s82s,86s96s05s cents: 1981s still looking for the 1987pd, and 70 from circulation to fill the books!
Ooh a 2005S - thats pretty cool! Ah - here's one that'll be interesting - a 1999S. Will that be hard to find because no one is breaking the 1999 proofs, or will it be easy to find because they are breaking proof sets to get the quarters?
