"Exact" is too exact of a word... I just pulled up ebay sales for coins like it and they range from ~$8 to $98(way too high IMO). Most seem to be in the ~$20 range.
Excellent question. We get plenty posts about DDO's, DDR's, RPM's, etc. Most are Post Mint Damage. But on occasion we get something that is legit. It appears that in this case it's a real RPM. And there are almost weekly articles in Coin World about such items. But I (to the best of my memory) have never seen a quoted value except for well documented authentic errors. It would REALLY be nice to know the value of these items. The difference between 2¢ and $2 is considerable, particularly if a person is going to be spending hours searching for these items.
Charles - I seem to remember your post recently about a 1972 DDO3 value. non_cents summed it up quite nicely: "ebay completed listings are the most accurate way for seeing what the coin has gone for recently. Coppercoins.com is useful as a database, but as is the case with most price guides, they are just that; price guides. They are not kept up to date with sales and auctions, they are more or less just a guess and a "guide" to get the rough value of certain varieties, and do not guarantee that a coin specified in a certain grade will command the price it is quoted at." There is no way you will ever get an "Exact" value. Best thing you can get is a "General Idea" value. There are too many factors at play to get closer than that.
That's where I get most of my coins, and I just wonder if the eBay prices are the real price, or if people are getting good deals Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I've seen it both ways. Some people get great deals...A lot of people pay waaaay too much. BUT it's all what it's worth to the buyer. Hopefully whoever paid $90+ for one is happy with it In the end that's what matters I guess.
I'd love to see more quality photos of yours. Maybe you'll find this helpful, though the opinion on condition varies. I tried buying an AU-58 in an ANACS slab for $9. That was no longer available, so, in its place I received the SEGS slabbed one in this topic... http://www.cointalk.com/threads/1960-d-d-error-and-guess-the-grade-by-segs.243649/
Not yet it isn't, but *if* this variety makes it into the next Cherry Picker's then values will soar.
I might say the boldest, but I think the RPM-100 lincoln of the same year/mint is the better one, even if it wasn't also a DDO .
