Please give me a straight answer on this coin, << Is a picture Everyone tends to hessitate when they see this coin, and not want to respond to me. I have this coin I found it in 1989. It does not have IN GOD WE TRUST. Which is required for every coin correct? It has high gravings on it kinda 3D It uses Roman numerals for the date which is 1907. How much do you think this is worth? Everyone says its impossible to be real, but I really think it is but just for kicks and giggles how much do you think? I could scan more pictures if you would like such as close ups of the coin. Thanks!
Howdy Brad - Welcome to the Forum !! The coin you pictured did not have the motto on it in 1907, so that's nothing unusual. But we need better pics to be able to see the coin, those are too small and out of focus.
Well, to me, the coin has an odd color....it seems like it may be fake. But if it's real and your descriptions are accurate, it could be a very rare coin, A High Relief 1907 Double Eagle, or it could possibly be a regular one, which would still be a great find!
Ok I will have to scan them tomorrow and post them here thanks! Hope it might be worth a little. Its heavy in weight, its a beautiful coin.
Well to tell you the truth my youngest son thought it would be great to deep it in some jewerly cleaner, that probably disclored it a little.
Where did you find it??? Try to avoid cleaning any coin if you can. It can hurt the coin's value a LOT. That coin, if real, is very rare and worth a lot. The cleaning would knock off quite a bit of value however. This is what the coin should look like http://www.coinfacts.com/double_eag...le_eagles/1907_double_eagle_saint_gaudens.htm However that doesn't look like a gold coin to me. It looks like a copy coin. Hard to say from the pics though.
Well you got to think, I found this at a dump this coin has been circulated through out the world probably. Those images that I scanned does not give it justice I will get more tomorrow and post. I call it aka Dumpster coin. It is very heavy in weight. And would probably bust glass. And if it was a copy coin would it not require in god we trust?
Might be this coin, hard to say without better pics. http://www.coinfacts.com/double_eagles/saint_gaudens_double_eagles/1907_high_relief_knife_rim.htm
Nope, the copy would look like the real thing...and that coin did not have the motto until 1908. The real thing is supposed to be a Gold coin, so you need to ask yourself if that coin has the possibility of being gold. If you think it truely is an authentic gold coin, then you need to have it authenticated as it's a very rare EXPENSIVE coin. However that fact alone is one reason why people try to create copies...especially of bronze which is a heavy metal and would look almost like gold, but may look darker over time.
I have pictures! http://www.bradhobbs.net/coin.jpg http://www.bradhobbs.net/coin2.jpg and Can you tell me anything about this? http://www.bradhobbs.net/money.jpg
Yeah, thats what most people say then they offer me money for it.. Go figure? http://www.bradhobbs.net/money.jpg Still wondering about that .. Its in really good condition.
I don't know of any jewelry cleaner that would turn a 21.6 carat Double Eagle that color! Have you weighed it? A genuine coin weighs 33.436g, so if your varies from that standard it is definitely a fake. If it has the correct weight, more analysis is required, including: What, if any, lettering is on the edge The number of rays extending from the sun on the reverse, and The folds of Liberty's skirt near her right leg.
Have to agree that it just doesn't look like gold, and likely a fake. A couple other things don't look quite right either, the flame on the torch, and the face. I hope we're wrong and it is genuine though.
I am 99% sure it is fake, look at the stars and Liberties face, nothing looks right. I also have to comment on the really ugly color of the gold. -Rob
Just to add to that Starwars, Have you seen one of these exact things by the naked eye? Or have you seen a replica? Does anyone know what the correct 1907 coin looked like? Or is it all just replicas?

Oh well, guess its a replica but still will be locked under a key and safe... Who knows it might be real and about 50 years later might get millions for it. Thanks to all that helped. I will mark this as Dumpster coin, still wondering about my $500 confederate money .. http://www.bradhobbs.net/money.jpg Thanks all! have a good night. If its real ill give you all a call at my mansion. (hahaha)
