I've seen the little pkgs of crystals and the bars than can be "reactivated" in an oven, does one work better than the other? How long, I guess it really depends on the enviroment, do the little pkgs last before they must be replaced? The bars protect a certain sq / cubic footage of space, can you have too many bars in a space? I looked at some things that are used in gun safes, but they seem to put something into the air to protect the metal from moisture. Obviously this would not be good for coins.
The small packages don't have much moisture absorbing capacity, don't clearly indicate when they are near capacity, and can't easily be dried out for further use. The perforated cans have much more capacity for absorption of moisture, indicate by color change when they are at or near capacity, and are easily dried out. Your choice.
I prefer the "reactivated" type, and am going to switch to the larger size for the sake of a longer protection period.
I will tell you the kind that I like the most, the kind that is made by the natrasorb company, they are the ones who manufacture the gel packs to be placed in boxes/crates/warehouses that are used by the army to store stuff like oh ummm...BOMBS, ammunition, etc...Things like that, so you know...that these little packets, are made to do the job right
Today I ordered two 40 gr Pelican Silicia gel bars off Ebay. The kind that can be reactivated in an oven. Thanks ---
