jibbie, The old Gothic Style English letters are very hard to read if you haven't seen them much. It should say something like: ELIZABETH D G ANGL FRA ET HIB REGINA or abbreviated versions of these which mean Elizabeth by the grace of God England France and Ireland Queen...LOL We can tell you what denomination it is if you can give us the size in mm.
The width (diameter NOT the circumference) in millimeters (LOL Aidan) We'll be able to tell you if it's a penny, sixpence, groat or shillling or whatever and narrow down the value. From what I can see from you photo,it's really a nice coin, well centered with a lot of detail.I also hope it's authentic and not a copy.I'd have to see a nice clear pic to tell you any more.
i cant get a clearer pic cam not good on ruler i got is in inches its 0.12 inches across the coin and 0.1 thickness will that help
jibbie, I don't think it could be 0.12 inches. Are you sure? That's just over 1/10th of an inch or about the size of this underscore _ .....maybe you mean 1/2 in.?
Hi jibbie, Here is a pic of my 1573 sixpence, does it look similar to this? can you see more/less detail?
Also if you have access to a scanner you should be able to scan it, which will give you a better picture than your current camera.
Thanks Mikjo0, I bought it for about £40 or $80 from a local coin/antiques dealer. I also bought this Henry VIII second Laker D bust groat at the same time for £80 or $160 (great deal in my books). There is much more detail in hand you can see the different strands in Herny's hair. (my scanner's rubish) I am waiting for my new digital camera to arive so I can take better pics of some of my coins.
That's a very nice English 6d. of Queen Elizabeth I you have got there. It's ever better than my holed 1/-.I have a couple of Elizabethan 6d.'s tucked away around somewhere. Aidan.
