I disagree...this is the preferred method by professionals. From what I have read...the TPG graders don't use gloves. You lose too much dexterity with gloves and run the risk of dropping a coin and damaging it. There is no risk with bare hands if done correctly.

Sorry i am just not going to presume that sellers on ebay "know what they are doing and proper care is being taken". Guy probably just picked his nose before picking up the coin and snapping the picture.

The way the coin is being handled in the photo is not correct. Coins should only be handled by the rim.

For me it all depends on the coin. If a circulation coin has a certain luster, I will wear gloves. Same with all proofs. When I don't wear gloves I handle gently by the edge.

That is absolutely correct. It is about presenting the coin in a professional manner. Otherwise, it leads someone to think the seller could be damaging the coin.

To follow up more on this... I don't really care what the seller (owner) of the coin does to their coin. If they want to take a photo of it in their dogs mouth I have no problem with it. I just won't buy it. In some ways, I actually like seeing them ruin their coins. Better for those like me who properly care for coins.

Did I say or even remotely imply that he was? As far as I can tell, I made no mention of your post or the ebay coin, so why take what I said out of it's obvious context?

To each their own. Without gloves, you’re transferring something to the coin that wasn’t there before. Will that harm the coin? Definitely not in some cases, but, in other cases it definitely will harm the coin. Based on coins I’ve had stored for years, the ones I handled with gloves faired much better. So ya'll go ahead and touch your coins, making mine worth more.

Again, to each their own. I wear snug fitting nitriles, to me I have better dexterity with the gloves and I'm not leaving a little bit of myself on the coin.

Better hope that TPG grader isn’t the one we saw in the pics with a bucket of licorice and an open soda on the grading desk. I don't transfer those thing to my coins either.

Hmm, I may change my thinking about touching a coin with bare hands. But, only if it’s possible to recover my DNA from the coin in case they’re stolen and recovered.

If you're happy wearing nitrile gloves...I say go for it. That said, I wear nitrile gloves 8 hours a day and I can tell you that even really good quality thin ones reduce your dexterity.

My whole point of this post was that IN MY OPINION its a huge turnoff to me when I see ebay sellers holding their coins with their bare hands. Better IMO to just take a picture of the coin by itself... that way 1) i dont begin to imagine how you are leaving fingerprints all over it and 2) i don't need to see your dirty fingers/fingernails (another image that does not inspire confidence). Didn't mean to say that YOU can't hold your coins properly by the edge without gloves. But if you post a pic on ebay holding a coin with your bare hands, I will not buy it. Lost sale for you.

    Just my 2 cents.
