Hello, What are your thoughts on these sets. 2012 numbers say on 28,000 or so. 2013 number not posted yet. Was thinking that if you had 2012 Silver Eagle Graded with Annual Dollar Set Label, might be a good coin to watch for. Looked alittle on E-Bay but their arnt alot to look at. But I thought I had seen them. What do you hink for a future coin? Thanks Jim
28,000 for that packaging only. I'm not sure how just a label saying it came from such and such packaging versus coming in x packaging would make it any more valuable than the 202,504 other silver eagles that are identical except for the fact they were sold in a different packaging option.

Correct but I think the point Blissskr is making is that once it's out of the packaging, all bets are off because folks aren't paying for the coin or coins within the set. They are enamored with the "packaging" and IMO, its called ignorant. The ONLY packaging which is worth a premium is packaging which might be truly rare (King of Siam Set) or packaging that holds some significance (Nixon Presentation Dollars). Certainly not packaging that is the end result of the US Mint trying to dream up methods of getting folks to spend their money on US Mint Products. PS, it doesn't matter what the ignorant pay for something since an educated numismatist knows that it's money wasted and not spent wisely. Of course, folks are welcome to collect what they like and that gets proven day in and day out on the Nightly TV Coin Shows and countless other Hucksters out their separating you from your money. It doesn't mean that what they're buying will have any lasting value though.
Well, I guess we are all entitiled to our own thoughts. But history shows that Graded Coins with certain Labels sell for higher amounts. And with that being said there are plenty of people that dont care for labels and plenty that do and pay for them.

If the packaging intrigues, then by all means buy it. You're a collector. If you 're thinking collector premium down the road........maybe........but not likely............
Your right, ll pick a few from years past, 2006W Eagle and Gold Set Anniversary, 2008w reverse 2007, ALL buffalo (gold), 1995 silver eagle that just a few, graded with special labels have all held there values.
Some of the ASE's you've mentioned are different. The 1995 Silver Eagle that is selling for huge premiums has a mint mark the others in that year didn't. 2008 with reverse of 2007 is also comparing apples to oranges. The coins in the 2012 dollar series are no different than the ones you can get outside that packaging. Agree with the thoughts above about short term appreciation, long term disappointment.

You asked for thoughts and you got them. Next time don't ask for peoples thoughts if you're not prepared to receive thoughts that are different then yours. Am I the pot and you the kettle or vice versa?

And as far as peoples thoughts, your the one insulting them by calling them ignorant and you call yourself educated, thats pretty funny. Do you read what you write before you press the button here? Remember the old saying, Its better to be thought ingnorant then to open your mouth and remove all doubt? Pot & Kettle are the same.
Do yourself a favor and look up the definition of ignorant. You'll see that even educated folks can be "ignorant" about things which they simply do not know.
I don't know about the lasting value because it's a pretty new phenomenon. Is it a fad or are we seeing the beginning of a new trend in coin collecting? We've heard that real numismatists scoff at these labels and I'm sure they do raise their noses at the masses of peons collecting slabbed modern coins. But there is room in the hobby for all sorts of coin collecting and the folks collecting labels probably don't call themselves numismatists anyways. A lot of people do like to collect sets. What if someone's putting together a slabbed 2011 Silver Eagle Anniversary Set? Is it idiotic to buy a bullion Eagle that came from that set (and has a label proving it)? Will the coins from the set hold their premium over the millions of non-set bullion Eagles?
