The last post I read of the old hoopster was that he was so proud of his son the Junior hoopster and how good he was doing playing ball, RIP
https://www.cointalk.com/threads/congrats-to-my-son-jr-hoopster.400893/#post-8662528 I remembered that one, too. Glad he got to see it happen.
I too am very sad to hear this news. I PMed him once to thank him for trying to help get my son to be allowed to become a member of CT. I wondered why I didn't get a reply. Sadly, now I know! I didn't know him well, but he seemed like a very nice man, and I will miss his posts! RIP Old Hoopster!!!!
Just saw this where he talked about his condition... https://www.cointalk.com/threads/its-been-a-year.399101/
RIP,wow what a tragic surprised ending to still a somewhat young star.Never met him face to face but I could tell he was a really fun loving person that still had plenty of big dreams just cut to short. Also believe it or not they recommend to start screening at 30 as a start due to it impacting younger audiences recently, colon cancer runs high in my family which is scary!!.
If you're told to get screened, get screened. I was dreading it, but the prep isn't nearly as bad as it used to be, and the procedure itself is... well, you'll be sedated and you'll have no memory of it, so as far as I'm concerned it's a non-event. They did enough snipping my first time through that they put me on an every-third-year schedule, but the last one was clear enough that they bumped it to five years. (Not much family history of cancer at the time of the first one, but a couple of Dad's siblings have had it since, so yeah.) (Edit: and sorry if that veered into TMI, but I figure raising awareness is the very least I can do to honor @Oldhoopster's memory.)
RIP oldhoopster. You will be missed. And totally agree with @potty dollar 1878 and @-jeffB , get screened early if recommended by your Dr or if your family history is a marker.
Oh no.. we had a few nice private conversations. He was a humble gentleman. He will definitely be missed.
Thought I might post this. It was last of my private conversations with him. I keep going back to read it. I am completely in awe of how honorable the grasp that this young man had with his diagnosis. I'm at peace with things. I have 3 great kids. Great wife. Had a great career. Did a lot of fun and interesting things in my life. Been to over 40 states and 20 + countries for business and pleasure. I hope your kid picks up on collecting. I Learned so much about history from coins that has enhanced my life and I hope he can pick up on something that works for him So all things considered, it could be worse Thanks for all your kind words and thoughts. Those do help
Jim had been giving me moral support through messaging, when he found out I had Stage 4 prostrate cancer. He will be sorely missed here at CT and in the collecting world.
