I have the following quarters they are in slabs and are ms70 all are graded by pci. Can anyone tell me the value 1999-s Georgia 1999-s Connecticut 1999-s Pennsylvania 1999-s Delaware 1999-s New Jersey All ms70
I am going to assume that you mean PF70 since you have indicated that the coins are San Francisco minted coins. You will never get PF70 money for a PCI graded coin. IMO, you would be lucky to get NGC or PCGS PF68 money which is about $15 per coin.
I did not even pay attention to the "s" mint marks... Maybe he will luck out and they will be silver.
Sorry, face value. It's had to sell a PCGS PR70DCAM unless its a first strike. They are worth about 25 to 30$.
<grin> // check my store at Ebay, I suffer the indignation of having them posted for a bunch of months now. Bought most of them from Teletrade on their Tuesday night no buyer premium auction. but, paid about 30$s a piece for them including frieght. Still have a bunch of them in stock. I also bought some 2010 First Strike for 30 and made a killing, but that wasn't the rule by a long shot. And all of mine are silver...
Agreed. If they are silver...they are worth more. But, PCI is not considered a reputable grading company.
Depends upon what color the label is; when they used brown labels, they were reputable. Last year I crossed an MS67 Brown Label PCI Washington Quarter into an NGC MS67 holder. I have been selling sets of PCGS PR69DCAM state quarters over the last year and I usually get about $7-$8 per coin. The $15 I quoted is the price guide value and not realistic. I don't think he will get $8 per coin, but a high grade proof 1999 state quarter is worth more than face value. Perhaps $3-$5 per coin! The mint packaged clad state quarter proof sets sell for $5-$10, so they are at least worth that much.
Wow, they have really come down. I remember when even the clad 1999 sets were over $100 and the silver were stupid expensive. You are right...there are some PCI eras where the grading was better. But now, with so many different reincarnations of PCI over the years, you never know which is which.
Couldn't agree more. I have to laugh every time I see a PCI slab. The grading standards (if there are any) are pretty loosely interpreted.
I agree...that's what I tried to say in my post. There was an era of PCI when they were decent. The really sad part is the company has been bought so many times...that there are a bunch of "incarnations" of PCI and most of them are bad. But those old one's were pretty good.
I really don't know when that coin was graded. PCI effectively ruined their reputation for grading by egregiously overgrading coins towards the end of their span. But that does not mean that they overgraded every coin they evaluated. This is just another example that we need to buy the coin, not the holder.
My understanding is the company changed ownership a number of times and with that their grading quality declined.
It is possible, I am no expert on the history of PCI. My feeling is that PCI grades are basically worthless but I like the holders. I used to hate them, but once I purchased a few, they grew on me, and now I like them. That said, I only own one PCI graded coin.
I have never owned a PCI graded coin. I don't avoid them just like I don't avoid any slab...I've just never owned one.
