Im super excited about some catalogs I recently picked up. I have been looking for the ones on the sale of the Eliasberg collection and not only was I able to pick up 2 of those. I acquired several others that looked to be up my alley as far as coins covered for the most part. Here are all the ones I picked up 'Bowers and Merena' Louis Eliasberg Collection 2006 'Bowers and Merena' Louis Eliasberg Collection 2007 'Bowers and Merena' Walter Childs Collection 1999 'Stacks' International Collection of Gold and Silver 1988 'Stacks' James A Stack Sr. Collection 1994 'Stacks' James A Stack Jr. Collection 1995 'Stacks' Randolph Rothschild Collection 2003 'Stacks' WM Thomas Collection of Gold Indians 2004 Also picked up the 2012 Pre Long Beach Catalog on Ancients and World Coins All told I spent ~$60.00 including shipping. This should expand my growing library quite nicely. Cant wait to get them in.
I paid less than $5 each for them and about $15 in shipping. Most ive seen listed, and bought in the past were $20+ EACH. I am so happy. The funny thing was, I wasnt even looking for any others but the Eliasberg that I was missing. I couldnt tell if the new ones I was bidding on were paper or hard back so I bought another copy of the Eliasberg I already had. I then clicked on the other items for sale and there were about 30+ catalogs listed. I picked up all the ones that looked interesting to me, mostly early quarter and halves, world silver, and some gold stuff to drool over.
I just threw away about 100lbs of auction catalogs. I regret not listing them here on the forum first. Maybe someone else would enjoy them. edited
May be of passing interest to some; the last time the topic of buying catalogs came up I was asked the question - how does one go about getting hard back, leather bound catalogs ? At the time I couldn't remember the answer. But a few days ago I got an email that reminded me of how you do that. The email was from Stacks/Bowers and it contained an offer to order hard back, leather bound catalogs with prices realized of the upcoming Law collection. A phone number for ordering was provided in the email. That's how it's done, orders for the deluxe catalogs are taken before the auction ever occurs, and once the auction is completed and realized prices are compiled, only then are the deluxe copies of the catalogs printed and distributed. Anymore, I don't even read most of the emails I get from the big auction houses, whereas in years past I could hardly wait to open them. Nowadays I just take notice of the email and go visit the auction house web site to view the upcoming auctions and see what's what. But for some reason I opened this one and saw that special offer that is always in there. Anyway, that's how it's done. If anybody is interested just lemme know in a PM and I'll share the phone number. After that it would be simple matter for you to get on the list for the future so that you are notified when upcoming auctions and special offers are in the wind.
