1966 quarter... Is this a double die ? worth anything more than 25c?

    Did this quarter come from an SMS set? I think your close-ups have exaggerated the appearance of the lettering where it meets the field. I don't see any evidence of doubling on the full-coin photos.

    yes it did... I did focus in on the lettering and just took pics cause it looked different when you focus in. I'm still a newb

    The PL surfaces of the SMS coins tend to look like your close-ups, but it is just an effect of the lighting. There is no doubling.

    I didn't mean that you were exaggerating anything. It is the (typical) result of the lighting on the PL surfaces.

    Well I never see the doubling on ones people say are double dies so I have to question any that look to me like they may be. Tried reading as much as I could find but even pics on the web and in the books dont look like anything special to me except in rare cases and almost none of them seem obvious without magnification. They always have to magnify them to show the doubling. Maybe I'll get it one day
