Where do you see doubling? As for the mint mark...I think you need more photos from different angles.

I wish my mircoscope could get better images of the split serifs, its all over the lettering, I'm going to bring it to the coin show next weekend potter will be there, so will coneca, if you look at the " O " in GOD, it shows the best for the doubling

I would be interested to hear what Ken Potter has to say when he sees the coin in hand. I hate to quote James Wiles but if there is any doubling on the coin I think Mr. Potter will say “Too minor to list.”

Good luck with the coin but don’t be discouraged if it turns out to be nothing, the “hunt” is the fun part and I have had more then my fair share that turned out to being “Too minor to list” with Wiles (LOL).

 

looks better in hand, thats for sure, and I'm pretty good at spotting the doubling, the best part, I have other 81 the match up too

 

Even with these blown up this size I can't see anything that resembles doubling. I'd even settle for machine doubling, but even that is missing.

 

I hate scope lighting, but I believe I see what you are talking about Rick. I agree that it would be minor, but I see what looks like separation and notching.

 

ya, 250x just won't do it, heres my ike split serifs at 2400x

 

I'm going to post two images of " IN " both are from the same coin, ones at 250x, and ones at 2400x, theres a big difference in appearance, thats only because of the magnification

I'm not sure what kind of scope you use, but I use an AmScope and I picked up some Ikea flexible desk lamps from Amazon and they work much better for getting the proper lighting.

Does it look to you like the lower impressions are taking a little from the higher impressions to make the lower impressions? If it does, that's strike doubling.

Any updates? Did you have a chance to get Mr. Ken Potter to give the coin a "look over"? What was his observations / opinion?

 

yes I did, it would be a new ddo, but, as Mr. Wiles would say: the error free should be the real error lol I have at least 3 of them

 

Had a lady hand me a bag of Kennedy's a while back. $500 face. She said, are there any Double Dies in here. I looked at the bag and said yes, figure out which ones they are and bring them back, I would like to see them. She actually wanted me to go through them for her. HA!

 

that old English style lettering, is classic for doubling, I think we had this talk lol
