coin is worn but it is a key date. What details grade would you say it is and what value? Thanks http://www.ebay.com/itm/1823-CORONET-HEAD-LARGE-COPPER-CENT-/331140129954?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT&nma=true&si=zgmVVlvxleYT7UinIWaluisXlqQ%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
I'd say it's VG details. As for the value, that's tough. It's the key date in the series, so some will pay up for it to fill their date sets. I would have expected it sell for about what it did, maybe a bit lower ($27-30 range).
thanks for the reply. I looked at sold listing for last 3 months on Ebay and its not easy finding anything under 30 dollars unless it is in much worse shape than this one.
You may be right. I didn't do any recent ebay searches to price it, and I don't want to disparage the coin, especially if you made the purchase. I just think it's hard to determine a value for a problem coin. This one has decent details, but along with the corrosion, it could also been cleaned/smoothed (hard to tell from the pics). I think this would be a great coin as far as filling a low-end date set. As you said, they are hard to find at a decent price.
I appreciate your input. It definetly is a lowgrade problem version. I may keep it or maybe resell it after seeing what it looks like. Constructive criticism is always welcome concerning coins put up here for evaluation. Thanks for your reply.
