Is this a Jefferson Nickel 1955D D/S?

Working on getting better pictures but here is what I got for now. Any thoughts? Received it in change after paying for a couple of IHC's at a local coin shop (which makes me very doubtful that the coin is a D over S ). Anyway...

it looks like the mintmark may have taken a hit from something

 

Certainly a possibility. Another picture with different lighting...

 

I don't see it.

 

Top part of the D looks right but the left side does not. I think there are multiple varieties of it though. I have a few.

Hard to tell from the photos, but it looks interesting. Wexler actually lists 23 1955 D/S OMMs. You might take a look and see if you can match up any markers. Take a look at 004.

Thanks guys! I agree with all that you are saying. I wish I could get the clear magnification necessary to show it and see it clearer. Great link too. I'll update if I get better pictures or more definitive info.
