i have noticing alot of close up photo(s) of coin(s) and was wondering at which would the best, i guess you can say, bang for buck scope to buy ....?? something in colour and clear photo(s) ... insight and opinion(s) are welcomed =)
I bought this one from Amazon and am happy with it. Since buying it my interests have shifted from variety hunting of US coins to ancients, so I don't use it much these days. Decent scope, good pictures. (link)
I bought the Leuchtterm model (with stand) recently: http://www.jpscorner.com/magnifiers-and-loupes.html It's a decent scope and certainly gets close up. However, I think it gets a little too close at times and with the onboard LED I get a little too much reflection of the light and it's sometimes hard to make out doubling/tripling due to the light overwash. I've heard the Dino-lite models are good, which are probably very similar to this one, just different software.
Never mind - wrong type of scope. Nice close-up pics, BTW! Does it work well/at all thru a slab, or does glare become an issue?
Very good to excellent scopes are rather expensive, what is a general price range ? In optics, you get very close to the quality by the price. There are many threads on the forum, use the search box above in the header/menu area.
Celestron Deluxe Handheld Digital Microscope http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=&sku=844469&Q=&is=REG&A=details Not the best, but it gets the job done
Just about any stereoscopic scope should work. It would be best if it had a camera mount but its not really required. Optics are generally limited to 10x and 30x but I've found that 30x suits my needs. A good suite of photographic software can also be very beneficial since it can enable you to "merge" images.
Nice, what Photographic software are you using? Right now I'm using Corel Photo Pro X3, but I'm thinking it's time for a upgrade
Through plastic in general (TPG slab, generic 2x2, US Mint OGP) it's about the same, the glare is there and gets better or worse depending on the distance from the coin and how bright the LED's are.
Ah so this is how some of you guys get close ups! I thought you were using some kind of camera lense. These are sweet. Now I got to get one! I'm just going to keep throwing money into my coin addiction, yes sir! Should be broke soon.
I primarily reply upon Photoshop Elements 7.0 along with the default Microsoft Office Picture Manager. I'd purchased PE 11.0 but was really disappointed since it appeared that they eliminated the Circle Cropping Function. So..........I uninstalled it and reinstalled PE 7.0. BTW, my scope does not have a camera attachment so I just but the lens up against the scope eyepiece. I've done this since 2005 and the only real drawback is in getting the light correct.
