Precisely. I'm not judging it, mind you. I'm only speaking for myself in saying I'm not interested. I don't collect any other sort of fancy bullion either. Each to his own.
I see where JA is coming from. I can never own a real one and I find it attractive enough to own this replica.
Antiquanova dies are not casts but 'original' artwork that misses the mark of capturing the real style more than non specialists realize. The more you know about a series, the less impressed you are with their work but most people will see them as reasonable copies. The question is whether there is a place for such admitted replicas in the hobby. The company makes no suggestion that the coins are real.
Yes, got my reply. As you say, not replica from cast which would have made it much more attractive to me as i'll never own a real one, but hand cut dies...... Whilst not accurate for the series......obviously some very skilled engravers working for the company. These would have been the skilled people in ancient times cutting the dies... Had they done so, we would have remarked at the beauty of the coins nowadays and any other replicas would have been treated as theirs are now... I have to admire their work more, despite the lack of accuracy, for it would be far easier to produce dies from casts presumably. But...........I wont be buying one.....I dont think?? (or is there an investment here? original artwork?)
I see no investment potential in these. Some of their dies are better than others. Their Brutus portrait on EID MAR is terrible; the Arathusa on the dekadrachm is better but would never fool anyone who has any business considering buying a $10+k coin. If I wore ties, I would make a tie tack out of the reverse of their EID MAR but I'm retired and don't wear ties. Making a cast of a real, high grade dekadrachm would not be all that easy. How much would you charge them to use your coin for the project?
I was under the impression that casts were in existence already having been taken quite often in years gone by? I certainly wouldnt let anyone touch my dekadrachm, but then its not a predicament I am likely to be faced with....
