What are the issues for the 2001 Buffalo Dollar? I know there was a proof issue from the 'S' mint, but was this particular dollar also issued uncirculated at both the 'P' and 'D' mints? In other words, are there three distinct coins to collect to get them all?

    Thank you, Jim

The proof coin was minted in Philly, the uncirculated in Denver, and the coin and currency set is also Denver. NO "S" or "W" mintmarks.

Does anyone know the original US Mint issue price for the two-coin Proof+Unc set? Dealers at coin shows are asking about $495. Ebay listings are selling for just over $400.

I don't know as I picked mine up on the secondary market. These coins were going for less than $150 when I bought them last year (both MS and PF). I see the prices have jumped up. I wonder if it has anything to do with the gold buffalo coin?

I always wonder how they figure out what Mint is going to make the coins...

    Specifically the Eagles and Buffalos...

All Proofs are made at (S), except the (Ws) which are minted Westpoint... On Tuesdays... :)

Are you saying $150 for the set of two or for each one individually? If that's for the set, that's incredible appreciation.

I don't know what makes them desirable. I think people just really like them. I decided I wanted one after I bought the gold American Buffalo coin.

The issue price for the 2-coin Buffalo S$ set, if pre-ordered, was $59.95. Regular issue price was $64.95.

If you got both for $150,it was a steal.I know I paid around $90 for my proof 2-3 years ago and it was cheap at the time because it had no Certificate of Authenticity.

No, it was per coin, not the set. I paid $150 for the proof and $155 for the Unc. That included shipping so both coins were individually less than $150. I actuallly figured the prices on the silver buffalo would go up with the interest in the gold buffalo coin being so high.

I picked up a NGC MS70 from a local coin dealer for $200. some six months ago and got the coin and currency set for $175. about 2 months ago. But yes I think it is people want them to go with the gold buffalo.

When the coins first came out they were selling for up to $250 - $275 each - unc or Proof it didn't matter. These were raw - not graded. In about a year and a half, maybe two, they dropped to just under $100 each. They have been increasing very slowly since then up to around $150 each and have held there for a while.

I'd be delighted for you to tell me where I can buy a proof Buffalo silver dollar for $150. At the last coin show I went to, dealers were asking $250 for single coins and $495 for the set. I offered one dealer to trade one of my ASE 20th anniversary sets for a single American Buffalo proof coin, and he turned it down. (In retrospect, I'm glad he didn't accept the offer.) Ebay auctions are close to $250 for individual coins and close to (either side of) $400 for the set.

Me too... I'd love to get one proof, or maybe the UNC, or even both, but $250 each and/or $450-$500 for the set turns me off a bit. I love silver, but have a hard time with that price. I'd do $300 for both though, or $150 each I guess.

Well a couple of weeks ago when I checked 'em on ebay, that's what they were. They have gone up a bit more, but still plenty of even graded examples selling for $170 - $180. Coin & Currency sets for under $160. eBay Completed Listings
