My dad got a 1852 $10 gold liberty head several years back. Took it to a hole in the wall coin shop and he said it was worth $850 after going in the back and checking his "books". Wondering if anyone can give any input on it. I attached a photo of the front and back. Anything is appreciated.
I'd say xf-40-45 the reverse is nicer a relatively common type one date I wouldn't say that price is out of line still a nice coin though
No motto $10 Liberty; easy to price through Heritage Auctions with their images. I had an 1847 that was around AU; I sent it to NGC but midway through grading I told customer service that I did not want it graded as I thought it was cleaned and did not want it in the purple details holder. She says its OK, it actually graded AU58. That is the grade where these go up a lot. They tend to be a lot less lustrous than the later tens, you could easily get an AU in which case it would be worth more. Compare auction images to the coin you have in hand. You could do a buy it now on ebay at $1100 and wait for the offers. Settle maybe fifty less; paypal and ship insured. Easily AU by standards today, possibly even choice AU from what I have seen in holders.
With imgur and photo bucket you would have been able to get those pics. rotated and professionally formatted.
