I found this penny and it caught my eye. Can anyone give me some insight to it? I tried to get some comparison shots of it. It is the 2001 and it is "whiter" than any other penny I have ever seen. Please let me know what you think. thank you DSC00126 (550x413).jpg DSC00131 (550x413).jpg DSC00128 (550x413) (2).jpg DSC00121 (550x413).jpg DSC00125 (550x413).jpg

it isn't brassy though, it is more silver toned I think. It is hard to get an accurate image from a camera too. I have looked in all the places I can think of to see what it could be, but can find nothing.

One clue which may (or may not) suggest that it has come into contact with some form of chemical is the copper hue that is visible on the reverse between the "D-S" of UNITED STATES.

I looked at it through the loupe and there is a small "copper" inclusion. It is no bigger than a pinhead. It wasn't there before, is that from handling the coin too much?

I wasn't referring to the small spot, rather the copper color that surrounds part of the "D".

looks like its been galvanized. We did it to cents when I was in high school in chemistry class.
