Convex O 001.jpg Convex R 001.jpg Hi. The shape of this early Byzantine coin looks clearly convex. The reverse has a big M , and aq lot of bronze disease. Could you please guess the name of the Byzantine Emperor on the obverse?
    Thanks.. Charles

    chrsmat71 I LIKE TURTLES!

some of that BD may be what left of the patina on the coin...if it doesn't come of to a gentle rub of the fingernail, leave it alone.

i don't know, my first guess was anastasius. i think the top of the head is pointing down at 4 o'clock on your pic....like this coin from wildwinds.

Possibly. The only thing I could pick up is that there is a cross instead of a star on the right side of the big M ( to viewer ) on the reverse. Could that help or have any meaning?

Many of them do have crosses, so not sure if it will narrow it down too much. Check wildwinds and open the thumbnail page to see the pictures and weights etc. You'll find it there.

Just so readers know, the top of the obverse is at 4:00 in the photo. The detail you can see at 9:00 - 12:00 is his cuirass.

Thanks YOC. That is correct. I turned the coin's top obverse to the right position and picked up the letter S .
