I can't recognize these coins. Could you guys help me out with who the emperor is and the value? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
They appear to be Constantius gallus, fel temp reparatio fallen horseman coins. Be better if you broke them out of the coin holders , took some better pics of both sides of each coin and gave weight and diameter......then we could give you a better idea. I am guessing they may be the smaller / later type....but I may be wrong.
The one with no headgear is Constantius Gallus while the two with diadems are Constantius II. The reverse are the common falling horsemen. I see an Antioch mint (ANE), one which is hard to see because you turned the coin oddl and the mintmark is off flan. You might get some benefit from my page: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/dougsmith/fh.html All three are the AE2 size.
Never mind they are common. Thanks for the nice page. Gonna have fun reading it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
About 3-4000 of these sprung up recently being offered at every UK coin fair. Expect to see many surfacing in the next few months.....
Actually these look like they could have come from a group worth seeing. These are not corroded but have minor faults like mintmark off flan and edge splits so other coins in the group could be nice. It is hard to tell much from these photos but 3000 could result in 300 decent and 30 nice coins with no problem. What are these worth? I'd say $20 for the mintmarked one and $10 for the mintmarkless. Full legends all around could get $40 and perfectly sharp and with all details might hit $80-100. If there are 3000 decent ones, the prices could get cheaper but only time will tell.
the 3000+ which I saw were all AE4 on small flans, bit like these, same patina too. they were offered to me at £2.25 per coin for 1000 a time. They have started surfacing on ebay. The group was eastern mint types.
Doug has answered your question above. How much did you pay for them? One downside of these is that they have been quite harshly cleaned.....pitting is visible and the patina has certainly been stripped at some point. Having said that, I'd like to own one of these as I am slowly forming a collection of them.
I paid 5 usd each. They were at a garage sale. The reason why I asked you is to see everyone's opinion... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
opinions are just that, but the ones you want are those based on experience 'everyone' doesnt have the same experience as Doug......his estimation is accurate. 5USD seems to be a fair price.
