Im currently looking into buying some slabs for my sierra leone company coins. the main one i want to slab is the 10c which is 20mm. what is the recommended size i go for ? 21mm ? this is the coin in question for those interested !! i would get it graded but i dont fancy sending to the US
Mark - are you looking to have a company grade and slab your coins for you ? Or you merely interested in buying some hard plastic coin holders, slab type, for your coins ? Based on your question I'm assuming it's the latter. If so, then I would recommend these - http://www.jpscorner.com/coin-slabs.html Since most slab type holders are made for US coins simply buy the size that most closely fits the coin you want to put in the holder, but go low, not high. In other words, you want a slab for a 20mm coin. But they don't make one that is exactly 20mm. The closest are the 19.18mm and the 21.21mm. So the one you want is the 19.18mm. A tiny but too small is OK, but a tiny bit too large is not. All of the slabs have flexible inserts, so the insert in the 19.18mm will stretch a bit to accomodate the slightly larger coin and hold it securely. But if you went with the 21.21mm slab the hole in the insert is too big and the coin may move around inside. That's why you go low, and not high.
thanks ! the latter was what i was preferring although i wouldnt rule out grading since it is quite a nice coin that isnt seen everyday ! its currently in a 2x2 flip which im not happy with ! im alo looking to put the SLC cent and penny in one too !
You can also order Everslabs, they have the same size than NGC slabs and fit perfectly in the silver NGC storage boxes: http://www.leuchtturm.com/epages/le...jectPath=/Shops/leuchtturm_eu/Products/342027
PS: If you consider getting your coins graded, but you don't want to ship them to the US yourself, get in touch with NGC/Europe. They will deal with shipping, customs, insurance... everything. http://www.ngccoin.co.uk/Contact
