Value in such things comes largely from identifiability and condition. None of these are at all clear. I believe they will be found to come from the late period barbarous, Latin and Bulgarian issues which are pretty ugly and hard to ID when they have good surfaces. I am not able to pick out any that could rise above being basal examples of very common late Byzantine coins worth a minimal amount. These are like the Byzantine equivalent of damaged, dateless Buffalo nickels that have been acid treated but still don't show a date. Some people might pay over 5 cents but some would not. If any are special, I am not sophisticated enough to recognize them.

The rule of thumb is this: when the flans aren't round or close to that, then they're barbaric.

A note to the grammar police, was that the proper use of a colon? I generally get confused with their usage.

Never listen to me. My rules date to the 1950's and 60's when I was taught the ten current ways. When I volunteer art schools now, I have to be careful not to pollute young minds with old comma rules and the dreaded English subjunctive which predate most of the teachers' experience. I'm not into yelling error unless it introduces confusion. Were I writing for a grade, I might prefer a more formal approach as shown below:

The rule of thumb states, "When flans are neither round nor close to round, the coins are barbaric. "
