In my price bracket most choices are strange, worn or plated.

So flat that there was no metal to fill the die:

    Just worn: ra8560bb0210.jpg

Plated with core exposure and a textbook example of a seam where the foil edges came together:

I still can't look at all these galley coins without thinking of this scene from the movie Ben Hur.

I had to laugh when I saw that, Race. Yes, I am sure life wasn't too pleasant below decks………….
In fact, banishment to the galleys remained a feared form of punishment into the 16th century in Spain.

A lot of great coins in this thread, including the well circulated.

Thanks for starting this thread back in February Zumbly! It is instructive of the hazards to one's wallet risked by hanging out on a coin forum such as this.

I felt the need to revive this thread , as due to the seed planted in my collectors brain by this thread earlier this year, I stalked, pursued and finally pulled the trigger on an example of one of these Mark Antony Legionary Denarii. Just brought it home this afternoon.

It took a while to find one that had the right balance between detail and price.

Mine is a Legio VII. Now of course, I've got to collect them all...:D

Can anyone point me to a site where I can ID the banker's mark above the galley?
